Thanks so much for this! I had as much fun reading the comments as I did the post it'self! Rather than add to their considerable mound of anecdotal flotsam, I will relay my own story here:
Once while Wanda and I were driving across Bloomington (this doesn't take a lot of time) we saw one of those all-but-ubiquitous-car-wash-in-church-parking-lot things taking place. The people responsible for this event had many signs they were holding aloft to advertise it, one of which read "Free Car Wash!!! Donations Excepted!"
I, of course, was in favor of stopping for the free car wash and explaining to them what fucknuts they were in the process, but for some reason we decided this wasn't an appropriate reaction.
